That person must be listed as one of their pre-designated alternate people and must provide a valid government issued photo ID before the child can be released.

  • Can my child bring toys from home?

At Cheerful Minds Childcare, we have a variety of toys for children to play with. We cannot be responsible for any item that is misplaced or broken. For these reasons, we ask that no playthings be brought from home. However, we understand that some toys may provide comfort for children. Therefore, if children have a special toy which helps them sleep, we can hold on to the toy, or keep it within the child’s backpack until nap time, where they can sleep with their special toy. Please mark it clearly with the child's name.

  • How can I help my child transition to the new environment?

We recognize it can be difficult for some children to separate from their parents and vice versa. For many children, this may be the first experience of being in a group and spending the day away from their parents. Gradual entry is very important to set up for success. Gradual entry helps parents and children familiarize themselves with our facility, rooms, routines of the day, and their new playmates, friends. Cheerful Minds Childcare Ltd. works with parents to reduce their child’s separation anxiety, comfort them, and help them to feel secure.

Here are some tips on how you can help:

  1. Visit Cheerful Minds with your child together.

  2. Talk about Cheerful Minds Childcare at home as this will help your child to feel that you are happy with the daycare and the environment they will be in.

  3. Talk about all the fun activities your child will be doing.

  4. Provide the childcare with a small photo album of family members which can help the child in times of stress.

  5. When leaving say good-bye and go without hesitating. Always reassure your child that they will be taken care of and that you will be back to pick them up as soon as the day is over.

  6. If your child cries, allow the care provider to take over to soothe him/her. Be patient because each child is different; some have no separation anxiety, others may require longer time to adopt.
